WILDCATTER, Ireland (AP) A white long-dress, with a pink lace collar, sold for nearly €1 million at auction.
The dress, which is owned by the Dermot MacBride family in the county of Clare, Ireland, was worn by former Irish Prime Minister John Bruton during his lifetime and is believed to have been given to him by Bruton’s son.
MacBride, who died in 2007, was the last Irish prime minister to wear a white long, and was considered the “Father of Irish” in the Irish political landscape.
It has also been used as a symbol of Irish independence and as a national symbol.
Irish President Michael D Higgins described the dress as an iconic symbol of his country.
